Yanks sweeped the Sox and do I feel like a kid again back in the 80s. The Yanks look just too good and the Sox look like a team that can't compete. I will never try to hide my hatred for the Yankees (I have respect for Jeter but that is it). As this season has progressed and it has looked more and more like the Red Sox are not going to legitimately contend for the title, I have come to begin to focus on the teams that might be able to beat the Yanks. I don't have a front runner and in fact I don't know if they can be beat this year. Can someone step up?
Beckett has had to Back down with back spasms. I have had back spasms and it can be crippling. You realize quickly how fragile we really are. Your back begins to feel like a rubber band that is about to snap and won't hold up against any pressure. Dice K has been less than stellar... there isn't another A lister on the club and we all know pitching is the most important part of making a World Series run. I hope Josh can take a break and be ready for the post season when we are going to need him.

Will the Sox Get Mauer?
The Yanks and Sox are going to duke it out not only on the field but in the Free Agent market again this off season. The Sox and Yanks are both in need of a catcher with two catchers that are near ancient. Mauer is the coming off his final year in his contract in Minnesota and is arguably the best catcher in baseball. In these scenarios the Yanks usually win and will likely win this one... Unless Mauer has more than baseball on his mind and doesn't want to play for the evil empire. Don't count out the Twins in all of this as they are going to make this even more interesting. Where do you think he will go?

SOX GET SWEPPED BY YANKS... UUUGGGGG!
I can't believe it. What is going on. The world has been turned upside down on me. The sox look awful. Perhaps their worst perforance since 2002. Personnel has to re-evaluated, particularly the pitching. I would rather see moves right now for next year than band aid this year at the sake of the future. The Sox really only have 2 starting pitchers and the bullpen has been shaky all year. Hitting has also been fairly anemic. I was not a big fan of losing Ramirez as he was and is the best hitter in baseball.
Sometimes you have to deal with the weirdness of Martinez but you get so much more positive. I just can't believe that his departure has helped the Sox in anyway. But I digress. It's time for Theo to look towards 2010 and 2011 for a championship. Any attempt at somthing sooner will be futile.

Where is the love for the Rangers
I know they are not the perennial World Series team but they have been quietly becoming a team to talk about the last couple of years. For the last couple of years their hitting has been phenomenal and the pitching an eye sore. This year the pitching is what has kept them in the hunt, and yes they are in the hunt. They are beginning to perform like a team with the right direction. Perhaps it was the biggest off season move last year when the Rangers signed Nolan Ryan. He is a leader and always has been. You can see his leadership and professionalism in the way the team and its players carries themselves now. Nolan's walking around the front office with that, I'm a winner, stride is contagious. If the Rangers can jut get the bats going with a little more consistency they would be all over the Angels.
Texas Ranger fans should be thrilled right now because the Rangers are usually a secondary headline in August because, 1) they're not in the hunt and 2) Cowboys training camp has started. That is not the case this year and deservedly so. The Rangers have some really talented young pitching that is starting to come into form. If Nolan can get the team to spend a bit on keeping top talent they have a formula for success.

A Perfect Game is really a team effort
Mark Buerhle threw MLB's 18 perfect game in league history yesterday and he will get the accolades for the rest of his life for throwing it. My question is did he "throw" a perfect game and pitch in one. I say pitch in one. His game is probably the best example of how the pitchers get too much credit in perfect games and no hitters.
In every no hitter or perfect game there are always a string of incredible defensive high-lights that somehow are erased from memory as time goes on. Its like that fish you caught 5 summers ago. It has now reached mythic size and it surely could have been the state record if you didn't show your love for the fish and practice catch and release.
Take a look at this play:

Red Sox vs. Yankees 2009
The Red Sox have fallen 1 game behind the Yankees in the East and the entire league. The Sox are skidding and the Yanks are pop flying, oh I meant Home Running their way to victories. Wakefield, the right handed knuckle baller is headed to the DL of a lineup that hasn't not looked their best over the 2 weeks.
As for their upcoming schedules the Yanks will face, after sweeping the Orioles (prediction alert), Oakland, Tampa, and the Chi Sox. Gosh could they win the next 9 in a row?
For the Red Sox, the have one more game against the awakened bats of the Rangers, and then Baltimore, Oakland and Baltimore again.
If you look at schedules I have to say that at the end of the month the teams will be tied going into August. Perhaps my favorite month in Baseball because I am a Sox fan and there are always great games in August between the 2 powerhouses. In fact, 1 week of the entire month will be played facing each other.
Sox need to get healthy and ready to play in late September. They will be there and ready!

Is Halladay the best pitcher in baseball?
After today's complete game domination of the best team in baseball (yes the Red Sox are the best team in baseball, lets not argue that one in this post) the question has to be asked. Is Halladay the best pitcher in baseball.
He sure looked like it today. I am not one to judge pitching too much but if I had to vote today he would get mine.
What's your opinion?

2009 Mid-Summer Baseball Classic - All Star Game
I still think that playing for homefield advantage in the series through the all star game is retarded. Homefield advantage is huge in baseball and should not be taken lightly by giving it away through an "exhibition" game. It devalues homefield advantage. Teams build their entire lineup around where they play half of their games. A team build to play in Seattle is not the same team that is built to play in Fenway, or the New Yankees Stadium...
Just another reason Bud Selig needs to disappear!
